We love Thanksgiving. It's a great time of the year to remember to be Thankful for all the goodness around us. It's a time to share with family, to reconnect with old friends, and yes, to eat way too much food because all of it tastes so darn good!
Just thinking of all that good food reminded us of one unfortunate consequence, heartburn. It might not happen. Maybe. But if it does, it comes with so much pain and discomfort. Was overeating all that food worth it? Probably. But I think we can all agree that not having heartburn is even better.
Sure, you can take antacid pills or chewable tablets to ease the pain, but there are natural food options too. Remember, there's no real instant magical anything out there so occasionally eat (or drink) these foods throughout your Thanksgiving nom-nom-a-thon. Here are some of our personal favorites:
Ginger - Candied, steeped in a tea, or simply straight up. This spicy root has been an ancient well-known remedy for helping with digestion.
Bananas or Melons - These are perfect natural dessert choices or just a nice little sweet and healthy snack.
Potatoes - Who doesn't like a side of potatoes during Thanksgiving? There's mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, roasted potatoes....you get the point.
Lemon Water or Chamomile Tea - These are both nice and easy drinks to add in between or after your hearty meal.
Healthy Fats - Avocados are a delicious choice here but nuts are great too! Don't forget to add some almonds, walnuts, or pistachios to your grazing boards and snack trays while hosting families and friends. That old saying "From soup to nuts" makes a whole lot more sense, doesn't it?
There are many more natural options out there. Oatmeal, apple cider vinegar, vegan milk, chicken, and even turkey can help neutralize heartburn. Others also suggest egg whites, leafy greens, buttermilk, and coconut water as options. To be honest, all of it sounds pretty tasty compared to the manufactured stuff. It kind of makes you question why you would need to take a pill or chew on a chalky tablet if you can eat good wholesome foods to that pretty much have the same effect. I mean, you get to eat good food and they're actually good for you. Amazing, right? =)
From our True California family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
